Reports have surfaced that the UK’s Fifth Gear automotive television show will not be coming back for another season. Fifth Gear was initially launched in 2001 in the wake of Top Gear, which at the time had been canceled.
Although both automotive shows have seen their fair share of popularity, Detroit Hyundai dealers say the shows differed in a number of ways. First, Fifth Gear was hosted by professional drivers. Secondly, Fifth Gear increasingly focused on everyday cars that the breadth of consumers would be interested in, as opposed to Top Gear’s penchant for supercar testing.
Another automotive show that faced cancellation before it even started to the dismay of customers at a used Kia St Louis was the American version of Top Gear. Hosted by Tanner Foust, Adam Carolla, Eric Stromer, and even possibly Jay Leno, the domestic version of Top Gear faced tremendous hurdles. With the Failure of Knight Rider, St Cloud Used Cars and others were disappointed that NBC doubted that a car-themed show was viable.
Fifth Gear’s cancellation probably stems from the lack of sensational, over-the-top supercar coverage that is so popular on Top Gear. Nonetheless, it will certainly be missed by the show’s fans.
